The Twistiest Twisty Twist Books

1. Then She Was Gone by Lisa Jewell (thriller)

5 stars

A mother’s heartache of having lost her daughter. Her determined will to find out what happened. A page turning hold your breath thriller. Survival. Tragedy. Losing touch with reality. Can’t give up. The whole time your head is exploding as new details are revealed. I’ve bought this book as gifts for friends of mine.

2. Dead Girl Blues by David Sodergren (extreme horror)

5+ stars

Whoa. The scariest book I’ve ever read. Books have never truly scared me until this one. The underground scene of what only the darkest souls of humanity enjoy. This isn’t solely horror, but a literature dive into the evils that lurk in a select few of us. I had to take a break from reading after this book. I was scarred. I was holding my breath. I was physically sick.

3. The Last House on Needless Street by Catriona Ward (psychological horror)

5++ stars

Excellent foreshadowing and building of characters. I received my bachelors of science in neuroscience and thought how the author put together this story was brilliantly done. A man with a boarded up a house, a daughter who can never go outside, and a cat who reads the Bible. I couldn’t put it down. Full of twists. I can’t say much without giving it away. Some readers have found it difficult to follow, but many don’t. This seems to be one you’re either in love with it or hate it.

4. Migrations by Charlotte McConaghy (literature adventure thriller)

5++++ stars

Survival, hopelessness, danger, adventure, wandering steps, and passion. A woman is tracking the last Arctic terns as all the animals have been going extinct. She finds one of the last fishing vessels left to take her along their migration. (Fishing has become almost illegal) A beautiful story of growth and hanging onto the last feather of hope. What’s the point of living if everything around us is dying? One of my favorite books I’ve ever read.

5. This is Where We Talk Things Out by Caitlin Marceau (horror novella)

Packs a punch in a short book. Madness. A girl who cut her Mom off is pulled back in when her Mom contacts her using fake numbers and going to her place of work for information about her all for the sake of love. The twists. Obsession. Sick.

6. Winterset Hollow by Jonathon Edward Durham (fairy-tale horror)

5++++ stars

This book was every single thing I loved in a book. It was perfect for me. A guy receives ferry tickets to visit the island of his favorite departed fairy tale writer taking his two friends along. On the island the enormous abandoned mansion sits behind a towering wrought iron fence. They find a way in. Imagine meeting the characters and experiencing your favorite fairy-tale. It would be a dream come true right? Run! Terror. Heart pumping. Creative. Imaginative. Unique. Deeper issues of humanity and what else could have existed alongside us.

7. What Lies in the Woods by Kate Alice Marshall (crime thriller)

Naomi and her friend’s testimony put away a serial killer that brutally attacked her. They used to roam the woods believing in magic participating in ceremony and rituals that constituted the Goddess Game. They held onto their secrets from that time. Naomi is determined to finally get answers. She returns to the woods no matter the cost.

8. Artificial Wisdom by Thomas R. Weaver (speculative sci-fi)

5+ stars

An AI is running for the world’s most important government position. The pollution and weather change is so bad the world has decided to elect a dictator to fix it. People use neuroreality, a head set or implant in your brain that allows you to virtually go to your own world and meet up with other people. Weather technology was used and supposedly it was sent to Kuwait and killed millions. Government conspiracies. What is the responsibility of telling the truth? I couldn’t put it down. How deep can everything go. A race against time. A question of morality. What is the best for humanity as a whole? Doing the right thing must override how you’re perceived.

With all my book recommendations, please check any trigger warnings if you need to. Some of these books are extreme! Even the books that aren’t marked extreme can still contain material some readers wouldn’t want to experience. Thank you so much for reading my blog!
