1. What Lies in the Woods by Kate Alice Marshall
Naomi and her friend’s testimony put away a serial killer that brutally attacked her. They used to roam the woods believing in magic participating in ceremony and rituals that constituted the Goddess Game. They held onto their secrets from that time and Name is determined to finally get answers. She returns to the woods no matter the cost.
2. Pretty Girls by Karin Slaughter
5 stars
An influential and rich wife loses her husband. Secrets of the darkest and most remote corners of society are revealed. What did he hide on his computer? What else could he be hiding? Horrific. Deeply disturbing. Will make you feel a lot of emotions.
3. Then She Was Gone by Lisa Jewell
5 stars
The twistiest twisty twist book I’ve ever read. I loved it so much. A mother’s heartache of having lost her daughter. Her determined will to find out what happened. A page turning hold your breath thriller. Survival. Tragedy. Losing touch with reality. Can’t give up.
4. The Good Daughter by Karin Slaughter
5+ stars
A gut wrenching heart breaking family horror. The worst nightmares come true. Horrifying because of how close to reality it is. This book had me shaking and crying. From page one it starts off with a bang.
5. The Girls in the Garden by Lisa Jewell
A coming of age. Trauma. In the classic Lisa Jewell fashion, this book is a page turner. A collection of houses and apartments share a backyard garden and when one of the girls end up in the hospital the past is dredged up.
6. Jar of Hearts by Jennifer Hillier
A solid crime thriller with extremely sensitive subject matter. She got away with a terrible crime that her controlling older boyfriend coerced and threatened her into. She got caught and had to go to prison. Her journey.
7. The Change by Kirsten Miller
Three very different women come together when they realize something terrible is happening in their town. They’re all outcasts in one way or another, but mostly they have all endured men’s prejudices against them. Must take the power into their own hands. Magical. Women Empowerment. Revenge. Female rage. Although I found the book very slow at times to the point where I would put it down for days, I find myself thinking about it a year later.
8. Artificial Wisdom by Thomas R. Weaver
5+ stars
An AI is running for the world’s most important government position. The pollution and weather change is so bad the world has decided to elect a dictator to take charge and fix the problems. People use neuroreality, a head set or implant in your brain that allows you to virtually go to your own world and meet up with other people as if you were meeting in person. Weather technology was used and supposedly it was sent to Kuwait and killed millions. Government conspiracies. What is the responsibility of telling the truth? Is it worth it if the stakes are super high or are we always owed the truth even if it could cause WW3. I couldn’t put it down. How deep can everything go. A race against time. A question of morality. What is the best for humanity as a whole? Doing the right thing must override how you’re perceived.
With all my book recommendations, please check any trigger warnings if you need to. Some of these books are extreme! Even the books that aren’t marked extreme can still contain material some readers wouldn’t want to experience. Thank you so much for reading my blog!
